The dispenser of destiny

Bhagya Bidata (ভাগ্য বিধাতা) means “the dispenser of destiny” — a phrase every Indian knows from the opening line of Tagore’s Jana Gana Mana. We chose it because it captures what Vedic astrology has offered for thousands of years: not a fixed fate, but a map of tendencies and timings that helps you meet your own life with more awareness.

How our readings are made

We believe you deserve to know exactly what you are reading. Every chart on this site is computed — not channelled, not hand-written by an astrologer. Here is the full method:

• Astronomy first. Planetary positions come from a professional-grade ephemeris engine, the same class of calculation used by observatories and serious astrology software.
• Classical Vedic framework. Positions are converted to the sidereal zodiac using the Lahiri ayanamsa — the standard of Indian astrology — and organised by the traditional structures: rāśi, nakshatra and pada, whole-sign houses, and the vimshottari dasha system.
• Written interpretation. The explanations are prepared editorially, drawing on classical Vedic sources. The paid reports are assembled from that pre-written text for your exact chart — no AI writes them. Only the chart reader at /ask uses AI, and it says so before you start.

This transparency is unusual in this field, and it is deliberate. Astrology, honestly offered, is a mirror for reflection — a way of thinking about character, timing, and choice. We will never tell you that a computer knows your future, and we will never use fear to sell you a remedy.

Who runs this

My name is Ranjan Barman. I built and run Bhagya Bidata on my own, from Assam, India.

I should say plainly what I am not: I am not an astrologer, and I have never trained as one. I grew up around Vedic astrology the way most Indian families do — it was present at namings, at weddings, at the choosing of dates — and I got interested in it as an adult for a fairly unromantic reason. I went looking for a free birth chart online and found that most of the sites offering one were doing two things I disliked. They were computing carelessly, and they were using what they computed to frighten people into paying for remedies.

The second part is what actually made me build this. If you have ever watched a family break off a match because a website labelled someone manglik, or seen a relative spend money they did not have on a pooja to lift a curse an app told them about, you will know why I think that matters. The tradition itself is far more careful and far more equivocal than the industry that sells it.

So this site does the part I can do honestly. The astronomy is real and independently checkable — every chart shows the ayanamsa value it used so you can verify it against any other software. The interpretations describe tendencies rather than events. And nothing on this site will ever tell you that you are cursed and then offer to sell you the cure.
