Moon Sign Compatibility
What guna milan can and can’t say when all you know is the two Moon signs. Every number below is computed, not written: each pair of signs was scored across all 81 nakshatra-quarter combinations it allows, with the same engine as our kundli matching tool.

Rashi matching versus full kundli matching
Of the eight kutas, four — Varna, Vashya, Graha Maitri and Bhakoot — compare the signs themselves, so they are fixed for a given pair of Moon signs. The other four — Tara, Yoni, Gana and Nadi — compare the two birth stars, and those can swing the total by as much as 18.5 points. Moon signs alone give you a range, never a score.
Across the table, 24 of the 144 pairings reach the traditional 18 in every combination, and 35 reach it less than half the time. The highest average belongs to Pisces–Pisces (30.9), the lowest to Libra–Pisces (11.8). 72 pairings carry bhakoot dosha by sign position alone — a traditional caution that classical texts themselves soften in many cases.
Why same-sign pairs score so high
Identical Moon signs max out all four sign-level kutas, banking 15 points before the birth stars are considered. That says the two Moons are alike, which is not the same as saying the relationship is easy. Same-sign couples also meet nadi dosha often — and they are where the classical cancellations most often apply.
The limitation that matters most
Every kuta, at sign level or star level, is computed from the two Moons and nothing else. A proper compatibility reading looks at both whole charts: the ascendant, the 7th house and its lord, Venus, Mars and the dasha periods each person is running. Treat this table as a way to understand the method, not as a verdict on anyone.

Common questions
What is the difference between rashi matching and kundli matching?
Rashi matching looks only at the two Moon signs. Kundli matching (guna milan) uses the exact birth stars too — the nakshatra each Moon was in — which decides four of the eight kutas: Tara, Yoni, Gana and Nadi. That is why a single Moon-sign pair can score anywhere across a range of several points — up to 18.5 for some pairs. A full compatibility reading goes further still and looks at both whole charts.
How were these numbers worked out?
Each Moon sign contains nine padas, the quarter-nakshatras of 3°20′. For every pair of signs we paired each of the nine padas in the groom's sign with each of the nine in the bride's — 81 combinations — and scored every one with the same ashta-kuta engine our kundli matching tool uses. The range, average and percentages are taken across those 81, each counted equally.
Why is the groom's sign listed first?
Because the classical tables score Varna and Gana from the groom's side, so Aries–Taurus and Taurus–Aries give slightly different results. Each page states which way round it is and links to the reverse pairing. For a couple of the same gender, the order moves the total by at most a point or two.
Can we decide a marriage from this table?
No, and nothing here is meant to. Guna milan is computed from two Moon positions and nothing else. It does not see the ascendant, the 7th house, Venus, Mars or either person's dashas — and it cannot see how two people handle money, conflict or family. Use the table to understand the method, then match your actual charts.
