5th Lord in the 6th House
The 5th lord is whichever planet rules the sign on your 5th house — which planet that is depends on your ascendant. The 5th house (Putra Bhava) covers creative work, children, romance, speculation, intelligence, and the subjects you learn for pleasure. Below is the general traditional reading of the 5th lord placed in the 6th house.
The traditional reading
With your 5th lord in your 6th house, creativity and intelligence are put to work in service, competition and problem-solving. You tend to think strategically under pressure and may apply your mind to health, law, analysis or teaching in demanding settings. Classical texts are cautious about this placement for speculation and romance; in practice it often means creative work becomes disciplined work. Daily routines and steady practice are what turn natural talent into results here.
This is the general, traditional reading of one placement. In a real chart nothing acts alone: the sign the planet sits in, the planets aspecting it, the condition of the house lord and the dasha you are running all change how it plays out — and can soften or redirect parts of it. Read it as a tendency, not a verdict.
What the two houses cover
Putra Bhava — Creativity, children and what you love
It covers: creative work, children, romance, speculation, intelligence, and the subjects you learn for pleasure.
The fifth house is where something new comes out of you — a child, a piece of work, an idea, a love affair. It is also the house of merit carried forward, and of the kind of intelligence that plays rather than grinds. Planets here shape what you make and what delights you.
Its lord: The 5th lord's placement shows where your creative energy is invested and what it tends to produce.
Ripu Bhava — Work, health and obstacles
It covers: daily work and service, illness, debt, competition, enemies, and the discipline of routine.
The sixth house is where difficulty is met head-on. Classical texts call it a house of enemies and disease, which sounds alarming until you notice that it is equally the house of the capacity to overcome them. It covers the unglamorous daily work that keeps things running, and the habits that make or ruin health. Strong planets here often indicate someone who thrives on problems.

Common questions
Which planet is my 5th lord?
It depends on your ascendant. Your 5th house holds one sign, and that sign's ruling planet is the 5th lord — if Aries is on that house, for example, the lord is Mars. The free birth chart shows the sign on every house, so you can find it directly.
Is the 5th lord in the 6th house good or bad?
Neither on its own. It describes where the matters of the 5th house tend to flow. Which planet the lord is, the sign it sits in, the aspects on it and the dasha you are running all shape how it is actually experienced.
