Venus in the 2nd House

In Vedic astrology the Venus stands for love, beauty, pleasure, and what you consider valuable. The 2nd house (Dhana Bhava) covers accumulated wealth, possessions, food, the family you were born into, and the voice you speak with. Below is the general traditional reading of the Venus placed there.

The traditional reading

Venus is comfortable here. Enjoyment of comfort, good food and beautiful possessions; family life and speech both carry sweetness.

This is the general, traditional reading of one placement. In a real chart nothing acts alone: the sign the planet sits in, the planets aspecting it, the condition of the house lord and the dasha you are running all change how it plays out — and can soften or redirect parts of it. Read it as a tendency, not a verdict.

What the 2nd house covers

Dhana Bhava — Money, family and speech

It covers: accumulated wealth, possessions, food, the family you were born into, and the voice you speak with.

The second house gathers. It covers what you hold rather than what you earn — savings rather than salary — along with the family of origin and, distinctively in Vedic astrology, the mouth: speech, diet, and the things you take in. Planets here colour how you accumulate and how you talk.

Its lord: The placement of the 2nd lord shows where your resources come from and where they go.

Common questions

How do I know which house my Venus is in?

Houses are counted from your ascendant (lagna), the sign rising at the moment of birth, so you need your birth date, time and place. The free birth chart works it out in a few seconds and lists the house of every planet. Without an accurate birth time the houses can shift, even though the signs usually stay the same.

Is the Venus in the 2nd house good or bad?

Neither on its own. A placement describes where a planet's themes show up in your life, not a verdict on it. The sign, aspects, the condition of the house lord and the dasha running all change how it is experienced, which is why two people with the same placement can live it very differently.
