Rahu in the 11th House

In Vedic astrology the Rahu stands for hunger, ambition, and the unfamiliar territory you are drawn into. The 11th house (Labha Bhava) covers income and profit, elder siblings, friendships and networks, and the desires you are willing to name out loud. Below is the general traditional reading of the Rahu placed there.

The traditional reading

Rahu is at its most effective here. Gains are large and often unexpected; networks are extensive and useful.

This is the general, traditional reading of one placement. In a real chart nothing acts alone: the sign the planet sits in, the planets aspecting it, the condition of the house lord and the dasha you are running all change how it plays out — and can soften or redirect parts of it. Read it as a tendency, not a verdict.

What the 11th house covers

Labha Bhava — Gains, networks and ambition

It covers: income and profit, elder siblings, friendships and networks, and the desires you are willing to name out loud.

The eleventh house is where things come in. Where the 2nd is accumulated wealth, the 11th is the flow that produces it — earnings, gains, windfalls, and the social connections that generate them. It is also the house of stated ambition: what you actually want, as opposed to what you are supposed to want.

Its lord: The 11th lord shows where your gains originate and which networks matter to you.

Common questions

How do I know which house my Rahu is in?

Houses are counted from your ascendant (lagna), the sign rising at the moment of birth, so you need your birth date, time and place. The free birth chart works it out in a few seconds and lists the house of every planet. Without an accurate birth time the houses can shift, even though the signs usually stay the same.

Is the Rahu in the 11th house good or bad?

Neither on its own. A placement describes where a planet's themes show up in your life, not a verdict on it. The sign, aspects, the condition of the house lord and the dasha running all change how it is experienced, which is why two people with the same placement can live it very differently.
