Shravana means 'hearing'. It is the nakshatra of the student and the transmitter: the one who listens properly, retains what was said, and passes it on undistorted. There is a scholarly quality here, an interest in tradition and lineage, and often a real talent for language. People with Shravana prominent tend to be well informed, socially connected, and good at knowing what is going on — which shades occasionally into an interest in other people's business. The mythology
Vishnu in his Vamana avatar asks for three paces of land and then crosses the entire universe in three strides — the footprints of the symbol. Shravana is also the nakshatra associated with the transmission of the Vedas themselves, which were heard rather than written.
