The tithi changes at the same instant everywhere, but sunrise, sunset, midnight and moonrise are local — so the day a festival falls on can differ between cities, especially abroad.

Cities with a different date in 2027

In 2027 every city in the list keeps it on the same date as New Delhi; only the times differ.

About the festival

Nag Panchami falls on the fifth day of the bright fortnight of Shravana, in the heart of the monsoon, when snakes are driven out of their burrows by the rain. Nagas — serpent deities who guard waters and the earth — are worshipped with milk, flowers, turmeric and rice at anthills, temple images, or drawings of snakes on the walls of the house.

Many families avoid digging the soil, cutting and frying on this day, and sisters pray for the welfare of their brothers in parts of the north. The Nagchandreshwar temple above Mahakaleshwar in Ujjain opens only on this one day of the year. Wildlife groups have long asked that live snakes not be fed milk — snakes cannot digest it — and many temples now worship images instead; the image, not a captive snake, is all the rite requires.

Gujarat keeps Nag Pancham in the dark fortnight of Shravana, and some southern communities link it with Garuda Panchami; this page gives the bright-fortnight date followed in most of India.

Common questions

When is Nag Panchami 2027?

In New Delhi, Nag Panchami 2027 is on Friday, 6 August 2027. Shukla Panchami: 2:28 AM, 6 Aug → 12:23 AM, 7 Aug.

What is the Puja Muhurat for Nag Panchami 2027?

For New Delhi: 5:45 AM – 12:27 PM. It is computed from the city's own sunrise and sunset, so other cities differ by a few minutes or more.

Is Nag Panchami on the same date in every city?

In 2027, yes for every city in our list — including those abroad; only the times change. That is not true every year, especially in the Americas and Australia.

Should snakes be offered milk on Nag Panchami?

No — it harms them. Snakes are reptiles and cannot digest milk, and captured snakes are often kept without food or water. The worship is of the naga as a deity, and an image or drawing serves fully; offering milk at an anthill or temple image keeps the custom without hurting an animal.
